DEFEAT TRUMP MARCH & RALLY

DEFEAT TRUMP MARCH & RALLY

The People’s Organization For Progress (POP) will have a DEFEAT TRUMP MARCH & RALLY on Saturday, November 2, 2024, 12:00 noon starting at the Lincoln Statue, 12 Springfield Avenue in Newark, NJ.

The statue is located at the intersection of West Market Street & Springfield Avenue in downtown Newark.

“This march is being held to send a clarion call that will alert voters to the danger posed by the possibility of a second Trump presidency and the necessity of defeating him at the polls during this election,” Lawrence Hamm, chairman, People’s Organization For Progress stated.

“We call upon everyone who does not want to see Donald Trump back in the White House to join us for the march. If you are opposed to Trump, his policies, his movement, and all the hateful things he stands for them you should march with us,” Hamm said.

“Most importantly, we want this march to inspire and motivate people to go to the polls and vote so we can defeat Trump at the ballot box. This election is too important for folks to stay at home. Trump can be beat if we come out in record numbers like we did in 2020,” he said.

On October 8th Hamm issued a personal statement calling for Trump’s defeat and endorsing the Democratic Party candidates Vice President Kamala Harris for president and Governor Tim Walz for vice-president. Hamm was a candidate for U.S. Senator in the New Jersey Democratic Primary Election held in June.

However, he made the endorsement with some reservation. Hamm said that he was strongly opposed to the Biden-Harris administration’s support for the genocidal war against the Palestinians, and demanded that they impose a U.S. arms embargo on Israel now to force an immediate ceasefire.

The following week, on October 17th the People’s Organization For Progress deliberated over Hamm’s statement. After much debate the group voted to adopt with minor amendments the basic position laid out in the statement calling for Trump’s defeat, endorsing Harris-Walz, and demanding an immediate ceasefire and U.S. arms embargo against Israel.

The march on Saturday will not be POP’s first anti-Trump march. There have been three previous marches. The group held a “Trump Must Go” march opposing his election in 2016. It held an “Impeach Trump” march in 2018. And it sponsored another “Trump Must Go” March opposing his re-election in 2020.

“Trump is a racist, fascist and failed former president. His term in office was a disaster. That is why he was defeated by President Biden four years ago,” Hamm said.

“He failed to win the popular vote when he ran and was elected the first time. He lost to Hillary Clinton by 3 million votes. While in office he was the only president in U.S. history to be impeached twice,” he said.

“Trump is the first president to be convicted of a crime, he faces prosecution on other indictments, and he was convicted for sexual abuse. When he lost re-election he led an insurrection to prevent the peaceful transfer of power,” he said.

“While in office he appointed justices to the U.S. Supreme that helped create a right wing majority whose rulings have overturned or threatened the hard won rights and gains of African-Americans, women, and other groups in society,” he said.

Hamm said their rulings have given more power to the office of the president that would make Trump an even greater threat during a second term.

“On Sunday, Trump held a rally at Madison Square Garden. He and the other speakers put the racism, sexism, and fascism, of the MAGA movement on full display. It was a preview of a second Trump term. We must use every vote we have to keep that from happening,” he said.
