DeFusco Reward Offer Generates Significant New Information on Illegal, Racist Fliers
Identities of Five Suspects Forwarded to Hoboken PD
Hoboken, NJ – A $5,000 reward offered by Councilman Mike DeFusco for information leading to a criminal conviction related to racist, illegal fliers that were distributed just before the Hoboken mayoral election has led to a significant new lead that has been forwarded to the Hoboken Police Department. The information received includes the identities of the five individuals whose images were released by HPD and who are believed to have distributed the fliers. The names of the individuals will not be released in order to preserve the integrity of the police investigation, however the information represents a major leap forward in the effort to determine who is responsible for the fliers that attacked Mayor-elect Ravi Bhalla’s race and religion and fraudulently used DeFusco’s name to paint him as a racist. It is not believed that the individuals who distributed the fliers were responsible for producing them, and the focus of the investigation is on determining who created the fliers and paid the individuals to hand them out.
“This new information puts our city one step closer to finding out who perpetrated this heinous act that impacted our election and brought an incredible amount of negative attention to Hoboken,” said DeFusco. “I am confident that the Hoboken Police Department is doing everything it can to solve this case and I would like to thank the many residents who responded to our reward offer and who share our goal of getting to the bottom of this disgusting act to hopefully prevent this kind of malfeasance from ever happening again.”
The Hoboken Police Department is investigating the fliers and anyone with any information is urged to call 201-420-2111 to report information. DeFusco has also retained a private investigator to help find the perpetrator and has launched a fundraising page to pay for the reward and investigation, and has established a dedicated tip line at 201-334-5266.
