Fake Candidate Anthony Bucco Resigns from Assembly and is Sworn into Senate
Anthony Bucco was sworn into the New Jersey State Senate just moments ago — but first he had to resign from the Assembly seat he’s still campaigning for. While he has already admitted repeatedly that he has no plans to serve in the Assembly should he be elected, his resignation is the latest striking proof of his contempt for voters and insistence on disregarding the democratic process.
“On behalf of the entire team, I want to congratulate Senator Anthony Bucco on his new job. It’s just too bad he found another way to show his disregard for 25th District residents on his way out,” said Bhimani and Draeger Campaign Manager, Daniel Fleiss.
“Anthony Bucco’s first act as Senator should be to finally be honest with voters about what his fake candidacy for Assembly really is: a partisan power grab to bypass the will of the people and install whichever hand-picked party insider he chooses into public office. It’s exactly the self-serving Trenton politics that voters are fed up with.”
Bucco’s resignation comes just one day after the Observer-Tribune criticized his decision to run for an office he doesn’t plan to hold and endorsed Lisa and Darcy, calling a vote for Bucco “a wasted vote.”
“Bucco is only on the ballot because the ballots were already printed… if [he] wins the Assembly race, the Morris County Republican Committee will name a replacement. The voters at large will have no say on that replacement and that is clearly not right.”
With a record like that, it’s no surprise that Anthony has dodged our challenge to three public debates and refused to answer questions about who would take his place should he be elected. If he shows his face at the League of Women Voters Candidate forum on October 28, maybe the 25th District voters will finally get the answers they deserve.
