Dept. of Environmental Protection Signs Consent Order with Mayor Gusciora
Trenton N.J. – This morning, Mayor Reed Gusciora, and Trenton Water Works (TWW) acting director Dr. Sing Fu-Hsueh met with Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Commissioner, Catherine McCabe. The commissioner agreed to sign the administrative agreement.
The Administrative Consent Order was previously presented to the Jackson Administration in May of 2018. They had refused to sign the agreement. The ACO underlines the commitment of the utility to operate in good faith with the consumers of Trenton Water Works.
“After reviewing the document with Dr. Hsueh and our consultants, we agreed to enter into this agreement with the DEP.” Stated Mayor Gusciora. “This, we felt, was the best way to ensure that consumers of Trenton Water Works see rapid, and continual improvement in their water quality. My administration is committed to providing the highest quality water to our constituents.
In the coming weeks, information regarding new initiatives will be mailed out to the consumers of TWW. The Mayor is dedicated to improving public information about ongoing projects at the utility.
The Mayor was happy to utilize his relationships with the current gubernatorial administration, and DEP. He has also arranged to meet with stakeholder mayors from the region in the coming weeks.
Trenton’s Executive stressed that “we don’t intend to cede control of Trenton’s water to anyone. Water Works is an asset which we cannot afford to lose.”
