DERYA TASKIN BECOMES N.J.’s FIRST MUSLIM AMERICAN WOMAN SELECTED TO ELECTORAL COLLEGE
(New Jersey, 12/14/2020) – Paterson commissioner Derya Taskin is the first American Muslim Woman and may be the first Muslim American Woman in the US to be selected to the Electoral College
She is currently the Vice-president of the Paterson Library & Museum Board of Directors and currently serves on the executive board for the WEDO (Women Empowered Democratic Organization) of Passaic County.
Taskin, a businesswoman and politician, has been living in the US for 25 years and has served as the deputy mayor of Paterson, one of the largest cities of New Jersey. She is also an executive committee member of the National Coalition of Turkish-American Women Political Action Committee.
A member of the Democratic Party from New Jersey, Taskin is hopeful for a healthy relationship between the US and Turkey, the country of her origin.
