Despite Defects, Progressives Choose not to Challenge Petitions and Welcome Open Debate
Earlier this week, the NJPD-UC filed petitions for a full slate of candidates for Union County offices as well as several municipal offices throughout the county. We are excited to continue connecting with residents and discussing our platform and thankful to everyone who signed our petitions to give our candidates this opportunity.
While we saw numerous defects in petitions filed by other groups across multiple races up and down the ballot, we are taking the high road. Rather than engage in procedural objections, we believe in promoting democracy. The voters deserve better than political infighting and lengthy court battles that detract from the real issues facing our county.
Invalidating petitions for legislative offices and silencing voices is not what we are about as a progressive movement. We welcome open discussion and new ideas and look forward to increasing the dialogue between all candidates and the voters.
