Diegnan, Turner Bill to Personalize Polling Place Information

Trenton – Legislation sponsored by Senator Patrick J. Diegnan Jr. and Senator Shirley K. Turner, which will update notice of election requirements to include information for voters to obtain polling place location, was signed into law by Governor Phil Murphy.

“This legislation brings New Jersey into the computer age.  A voter can now simply go to the county webpage and locate their polling location.   It brings about efficiency while saving tax dollars,” said Senator Diegnan (D-Middlesex). “Voters deserve accurate and personalized information on where their polling place is and this new law does that.”

“Providing voters with helpful information where they can locate their specific polling place will take any confusion out of the voting process,” said Senator Turner (D-Mercer/Hunterdon).  “However, this new law provides the added benefit of helping to save county taxpayer’s money by eliminating the need for boards of elections to publish long lists of polling locations that do not do the job of informing voters where they need to go.”

The law will update the notice of elections requirements so that rather than listing each polling place location in a notice of elections, the notice would provide voters with information on how to obtain polling place information. Under the bill, the notice of election would provide, in addition to the phone number and times at which a voter could obtain polling place location information, as applicable, a mention that the website of the Division of Election also contains such information.
