Diglio, Dickson, and Le Frois Seek Newton Town Council Seats

Former Mayors Sandra Lee Diglio, Matthew Dickson, and Helen Le Frois have teamed up and are seeking election to the Newton Town Council this November. The campaign slogan for the team is: Newton First. The team worked hard during the month of July to obtain more than enough signatures on their petitions to be the first team to file their completed municipal election packets with the Town Clerk on July 29th. Their candidacy has been certified.

About Diglio

Diglio has resided in Newton since 1978 where she and her husband, the late Philip J. Diglio raised their children Philip, Stephen, and Paul. Diglio was first elected in 2010. She was reelected in May 2018 to serve her third term.
“I am grateful to the public for giving me the opportunity to serve you, and I encourage everyone to attend Town Council Meetings and become involved in our Town,” says Diglio.

As part of her Council tenure, Diglio has been the liaison to the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission and served on the Planning Board. She has also participated in Neighbors Helping Neighbors events and has been part of the Fire Museum Committee. Diglio also serves on the Board of Directors and is secretary for the Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce. Since 2003, she has served our community as an Emergency Medical Responder for the Newton First Aid Squad, and currently she serves as an officer and Treasurer.

“I strongly believe that an elected official should represent the public and act in accordance with the direction given to them by the public,” says Diglio. Diglio looks forward to serving with Dickson and Le Frois and continuing the momentum of the work of the Council.

About Dickson

Dickson has lived in Newton for 13 years where he and his wife Grace are raising her daughter and their two boys. Dickson was first elected in 2018. Dickson has served as a member of the Newton Planning Board and liaison to the Newton Board of Education. He is currently serving on the Economic Development Advisory Commission.

“My life is centered on serving my community,” says Dickson.

In addition to volunteering as a coach for the Newton Roller Hockey league, he also participated in the Watch D.O.G.S. Program at Merriam Avenue Elementary School. Professionally, Dickson has obtained both a New Jersey and National Paramedic Certification and works as an EMS for Atlantic Health and Saint Claire’s. He is a board member of PANJEMS and chair of the legislation committee.

Dickson looks forward to serving with Diglio and Le Frois in his second term and is excited for many of the Town’s upcoming projects.

About Le Frois

Le Frois and her husband Greg have lived in Newton for almost 25 years. They have three children, Jordan, Madelyn, and Kathryn. “I love the town of Newton which is why I have volunteered and worked hard to make Newton a better place to live, work, and visit. I am passionate about my work as your elected official,” says Le Frois.

Le Frois has previously served on the Newton Town Council for two terms. She currently serves on the Planning Board and is Chair of the Parking Authority. She has also served as Chair of the Newton Historic Preservation Advisory Commission and the Sussex County Community College Foundation Board. As the daughter of a Vietnam veteran, Le Frois was proud to honor our veterans at Newton’s first Flags of Honor event.

“My priority as a Newton Council member has always been, and always will be, to make sure the town is safe, tax dollars are used wisely, taxes remain stable, and municipal debt remains under control,” says Le Frois.

Professionally, Le Frois helps to lead an organization that serves victims of domestic violence and abuse and manages multi-million dollar budgets that save lives. She says she is looking forward to serving on the Town Council again with her colleagues Sandy and Matt because of their passion and shared goal of always placing Newton First in their decision-making.

During their tenures, Newton has seen growth through multiple redevelopment projects, new businesses coming to town, several shared service agreements, and new grant awards. All of this has led to a safer community, expanded ratables, and fiscally sound budgeting practices. Their focus has collectively been on community, communication, and customer service. While serving together on the Council, the Council and staff achieved a nearly 0% municipal tax increase, started streaming Council meetings, and brought jobs and businesses into town.

During the upcoming weeks, the Newton First Team will be discussing different projects that they have been successful in helping to bring about to help our town. They will also be talking about several projects that are just now being developed and will start in the near future. They look forward to sharing this information with you.

The Newton First team of Diglio, Dickson, & Le Frois look forward to serving the residents, businesses, and taxpayers of Newton.
