EAST NEWARK, N.J. — Mayor Dina Grilo was joined by officials from across the state as she officially took her oath of office on Friday afternoon. Grilo, a lifelong resident of the West Hudson municipality, is the first woman to be elected mayor of East Newark and only the third to serve as mayor in Hudson County.

Mayor Grilo was sworn into office by State Senator and North Bergen Mayor Nick Sacco at the East Newark Senior Center. She was joined by First Lady Tammy Murphy, Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise, Hudson County Democratic Organization Chairwoman Amy DeGise, Assemblywoman Angelica Jimenez, Assemblyman Pedro Mejia and other local elected officials.

“Over the past several months, Dina Grilo has gracefully stepped up to serve the people of her hometown,” said Chairwoman Amy DeGise. “She has demonstrated herself as a dedicated and ambitious leader who is ready to continue moving East Newark forward. Mayor Grilo is truly an inspiration and role model for young women who are interested in running for local office. The entire Hudson County Democratic Organization is proud to stand with Mayor Grilo and we are confident she will fulfill her role masterfully and with dignity. We look forward to working together and are excited for everything she will bring to the table to benefit the residents of East Newark and all of Hudson County.”
