District 16 Democrats File Primary Petitions
Strong Support from All Counties in District
Trenton—The Democratic candidates for State Assembly and State Senate today filed their petitions to appear on the primary ballot this June with the New Jersey Division of Elections. Incumbent Assembly candidate Andrew Zwicker and his running mate Roy Freiman filed 511 signatures, more than five times the number needed, and State Senate candidate Laurie Poppe filed 245. Both petitions far exceeded the 100-signature requirement to appear on the ballot.
The signatures came from all four counties that make up the 16th district—Somerset, Hunterdon, Middlesex, and Mercer—indicating strong support for the candidates in all corners of the district.
Incumbent Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker stated, “This outpouring of support from all over the district makes it clear that voters value my commitment to putting evidence before ideology. They want representatives who put the facts first and are willing to stand up to special interests and party bosses.”
“I am running to bring people together as a community to overcome the challenges facing New Jersey,” said Assembly candidate Roy Freiman, “People from every corner of the district have rallied behind that message, and this wave of support is only going to swell as Election Day gets closer.”
Senate candidate Laurie Poppe stated, “I’ve been out knocking on doors every weekend, and the energy I feel this year is incredible. The people are fired up, and they are ready to get behind representatives who will stand up for what they know is right.”
