Doherty, DiMaio & Peterson: We Need COVID-19 Federal Funding for Warren and Hunterdon Counties

Senator Michael Doherty and Assemblymen John DiMaio and Erik Peterson (all R-23) released the following joint statement after learning that both Warren and Hunterdon counties received no federal funding from the ”Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act” (CARES Act).

“Nearly 400 of our constituents have tested positive for COVID-19. No New Jersey community has been immune from the wrath of this epidemic, so why didn’t Warren and Hunterdon counties receive funding to help combat this crisis? We are calling for federal discretionary funds to be used to help slow the spread in Northwest New Jersey.

“We commend both Warren and Hunterdon counties for their proactive approach and dedication to help stop the spread of COVID-19, but our communities need more help. Many of our constituents are out of work and local hospitals are working round-the-clock to make sure those who have fallen ill are receiving the best care possible. As we approach the peak of this outbreak, we hope the federal government will step up to support measures to help defeat COVID-19 in vulnerable counties that have yet to receive funding.”

The 23rd District Delegation sent a letter to Gov. Murphy on April 6th requesting that discretionary funds be allocated to Warren and Hunterdon counties.
