Senator Mike Doherty (R-Hunterdon, Warren, Somerset) was recognized by the National Federation of Independent Business New Jersey chapter for his continuing support of small businesses.

“Businesses, especially independently owned ones, face a tough challenge trying to succeed in New Jersey’s business climate,” Senator Doherty said. “They have to face high taxes and regulations that can often be too much for family-owned operations to handle. I’ve always tried to stand up for them in Trenton, because they deserve to have their voices heard.”

Senator Doherty was named a “Guardian of Small Business” by NFIB New Jersey for working “effectively to protect and preserve the future of free enterprise and small business.

In a letter sent along with his “Guardian of Small Business” award, NFIB New Jersey said “the award recognizes your efforts on behalf of small business in New Jersey as evidenced by your most recent State Voting Record that shows you have voted with small-business owners 100-percent of the time and by your solid understanding of the problems facing family businesses and their employees.

“Your track record on key small-business issues represents a commitment to help New Jersey’s most dynamic economic sector continue to lead the way toward greater growth and prosperity for all our citizens.”

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy,” Senator Doherty said. “They create jobs and enrich their communities. They will always have my support, because we can’t afford to lose them.”
