From Doug Rubin re: Jim Johnson campaign polling memo

With 4 weeks to go in the Democratic Primary, the most recent public poll confirms what our internal data has shown for a while – Jim Johnson is in a strong position to win on June 6.

A Quinnipiac Poll released last week shows Jim nearly doubling his support from their last poll, while Phil Murphy remains mired in the mid-20’s.  Over half (52%) of the Primary electorate remains undecided, despite Murphy spending $15M and having the backing of the political machine.  Given the immense damage the many former Goldman Sachs executives in the Trump administration are doing to the country, I guess it shouldn’t be surprising that New Jersey Democrats are very wary of putting Murphy, a former Goldman Sachs President, in the Governor’s office.

There’s more good news for Jim – the demographic profile of the undecided vote favors him more than Murphy.  This mirrors the results of a poll our campaign did in late 2016, which showed Democratic voters shifting to Jim in dramatic fashion once they learn more about the candidates.  I’ve attached a memo from our pollster, Celinda Lake, explaining all this – please feel free to share it with anyone interested in the race.

Let me say this again – Jim Johnson is poised to defeat Phil Murphy, even with Murphy’s record-breaking personal spending and the political insiders desperately trying to hang on to power. With your help, Jim Johnson can become the Democratic nominee for Governor of New Jersey on June 6.

There’s no better message Democrats in New Jersey can send – in the first statewide election in the Trump era – than electing Jim Johnson as Governor.  But in this state, we know better than most that power concedes nothing without a struggle.

And watch Jim debate his opponents twice this week. Tomorrow night at 8PM, Jim will debate his opponents at Stockton University. You can watch it online here. On Thursday, May 11, you have another chance to watch Jim debate at 8PM on NJTV, C-SPAN or WNET.

Jim is running to put the interests of the people over the powerful.  It’s about time that Trenton listened to us and not the insiders.
