Dumont Democrats Question Local Republican Narrative Regarding Twinboro Field Usage
(DUMONT, NJ) – Yesterday, the Attanasio, Warta, and Francavilla Team received an email that raised concerns about recent changes to the designation of Twinboro Field.
The email, sent by an individual with a history of running for Dumont Council as a Republican and also one of the players in the 35+ men’s softball league, a Dumont Recreation-sponsored sport, stated that the field would no longer be exclusively designated for Dumont Girls Softball. It claimed that the field would now be open to all sports, including Dumont Men’s Softball. We question why he would take pride in our youth having to compete for playing time.
It is important to clarify that Twinboro Field was never exclusively reserved for girls’ softball. It was merely named as such, and the field has always been open to various programs, including soccer, flag football, and men’s softball. This fabricated narrative is an attempt to boost the popularity of Republican candidates in our community. We believe it is essential to expose these false claims and challenge this erroneous narrative.
The email also mentioned a fundraiser supporting the Republican candidates for Dumont Mayor and Council, attributing this change to the Republican-led council majority. This move suggests that the Council overstepped the Recreation Commission and acted alone. We also question why a Borough of Dumont-sponsored league is endorsing a political party. Dumont Mens Softball is not its own independent organization.
Dumont Girls Softball has long been an integral part of our community, offering opportunities for young girls to engage in sports and fostering unity among residents. The girls’ program operates almost year-round, participating in town and travel leagues. This year our community has witnessed an increase of approximately $130 in average property taxes. It is disheartening that our youth sports now have to contend for playing time with the adult men’s softball league which is filled with players from neighboring towns, including Northvale, Hillsdale, Bergenfield, Westwood, River Vale, Washington Township, Englewood, Glen Rock, Oradell, Waldwick, New Milford, Old Tappan, West New York, and Dumont. This situation has left our party asking why local taxpayers and young residents are now having to fight for fair access to a Borough field.
The Democratic Party is committed to promoting fairness and equity in our community. We believe it is essential to open a dialogue about these changes and their impact on the opportunities available to our Borough’s girls in sports. We encourage all residents to join us in questioning the rationale behind these decisions and fake narratives and engage in discussions that will shape the future of Twinboro field.
