East Brunswick Mayoral Candidate Jesal Amin Calls for Businessman to Bring East Brunswick Back

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

East Brunswick, NJ- East Brunswick Mayoral candidate Jesal Amin issued the following statement thanking Mayor Cohen for his leadership in the public health crisis and calling for a businessman to lead East Brunswick’s economy back.

“I would like to commend Mayor Cohen on his strong leadership early on in the pandemic, specifically his March 18th letter, making the case for a statewide shutdown to flatten the curve of COVID-19.” Stated Amin. “However, as the public health crisis makes way for an economic crisis, it is becoming more apparent that a successful businessman is needed to bring East Brunswick’s economy back. Governor Murphy and Doctor-Mayor Cohen have moved too slow in reopening New Jersey and East Brunswick and small business owners are suffering. The initial two-week closure that Mayor Cohen called for in March is now more than 10 weeks in duration with no end in sight for small business owners.”

“Now the Cohen-Murphy team would have you believe that allowing restaurants to open at a limited capacity with only outdoor dining, and forcing retail stores to operate at limited capacity are some great steps forward, but they only serve to further the economic despair.” Amin continued. “Under what math, is a 25% occupancy viable for small business owners. This supposed ‘plan’ for re-opening hurts small businesses and our Mayor either doesn’t know this or doesn’t care enough to stand up for East Brunswick because it might hurt his political standing with the Governor. As a small business owner, I know the pain that small businesses face and have a plan to put them first so that East Brunswick will continue to thrive.”

Doctor-Mayor Cohen showed tremendous ability in urging the Governor to shut down the state, but has been unable or unwilling to do the same when it comes to re-opening the state and providing an economic lifeline to the small business owners in East Brunswick that are the lifeblood of our community.
