East Brunswick Mayoral Candidate Jesal Amin Calls Out Mayor Cohen for Not Doing Enough to Protect Seniors
For Immediate Release
East Brunswick, NJ- East Brunswick Mayoral candidate Jesal Amin issued the following statement criticizing Mayor Cohen for refusing to stand up to Governor Murphy and Trenton Democrats over freezes to the Homestead Rebate and Senior Freeze funding.
“The Homestead Rebate and Senior Freeze are the lifeblood for many low- and middle-income seniors who can barely afford to remain in their homes. These freezes will only serve to expedite the exodus from East Brunswick and New Jersey. “Stated Amin.” Mayor Cohen’s continued silence on this issue shows his unwillingness to put East Brunswick seniors above politics. Serving as Mayor comes with a responsibility to stand up for the residents of East Brunswick against the state, when its policies are harmful to residents, and Mayor Cohen has continually neglected that responsibility unless it suits him politically. I will not let politics stand in the way of my advocacy for East Brunswick’s residents.”
“This is just the latest example of Trenton Democrats poor management. From having the highest property taxes in the nation, to raising taxes $14 billion, to not paying out unemployment claims, to raising the Turnpike tolls, Trenton Democrats have failed New Jersey and East Brunswick residents and Doctor-Mayor Cohen continues to sit on his hands and do nothing about it.” Continued Amin.” Nearly 4 years into his terms, his signature accomplishment of redevelopment is stalled, and the blighted portions of Rt. 18 are just as blighted as they were the day he was elected. The Mayor took out a $15 million bond last year only putting us further into debt and water and sewer taxes have been raised 106%. As 4.3 million Americans are in mortgage forbearance, property values will face a sharper decline as the Mayor does nothing about upkeep at foreclosed properties. It has never been more apparent that East Brunswick needs a businessman to serve as Mayor who understands the needs and concerns facing residents and businesses. As Mayor, I pledge to fight to make East Brunswick more affordable and stand up Trenton when they stand in the way of this goal.”
