Eddie Freeman III Will Run for State Assembly in 8th District As Part of Mayor Fulop’s Coalition
Evesham Township Councilman is an Army Veteran, Attorney, LGBTQ Community Leader; Freeman is 5th Assembly Candidate to Run With Fulop
JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Democratic gubernatorial candidate Steven Fulop will run in next year’s Primary Election alongside Evesham Township Councilman Eddie Freeman III, who is announcing that he will be vying for a seat in the State Assembly representing the 8th District.
Elected in 2020, Councilman Freeman is a U.S. Army veteran who served in Afghanistan as well as a practicing attorney and a leader in the LGBTQ community. Freeman becomes the fifth Assembly candidate to be endorsed by the Fulop campaign as part of its pledge to support down ballot candidates who share his vision of reforming the state’s political system, and the first outside Hudson County.
“We want to help candidates across New Jersey who share our values of breaking away from party boss politics, restoring OPRA, bringing back responsible campaign finance rules and delivering the kind of progress that our state needs. Eddie Freeman is a perfect representation of the kinds of leaders we want to support,” said Mayor Fulop. “Competitive primaries make our Democratic Party stronger and support our democracy by giving the voters a real choice and encouraging them to get more engaged in the process, and we are committed to supporting candidates throughout the state who share our values.”
Councilman Freeman joins Hudson County Assembly members Barbara McCann Stamato (LD-31), John Allen (LD-32), Jessica Ramirez (LD-32) and Julio Marenco (LD-33) in aligning with Mayor Fulop in the 2025 Primary Election. The 8th District is one of the state’s most competitive battlegrounds and is currently represented by Democratic Assemblywoman Andrea Katz and Republican Assemblyman Michael Torrissi Jr.
“As a fellow military veteran and someone who has consistently stood up for reforming New Jersey’s political system, I’m certain that Mayor Fulop is our best choice for Governor and I’m ecstatic to not just support him but to run alongside him in next year’s primary,” said Councilman Freeman. “As a member of the State Assembly I will fight hard for working families and to bring much needed change to our state government, and I’m excited for the road ahead and to introduce myself to Democratic voters throughout the 8th District.”
The Fulop campaign will be announcing additional candidate endorsements soon.
