Elect Women NJ Announces 2022 Endorsement Application Open to Women Running for Local Office in New Jersey

The Feminist and Anti-racist Organization Releases their 2022 Endorsement Application to Increase the Number of Women in Local Elected Office

Middletown, NJ, July 6, 2022 — Elect Women NJ has officially released their 2022 endorsement application for women candidates running for local office to apply for funding and endorsement.

Elect Women NJ was launched in 2020 to fund women candidates and build a network across the state to invest in candidates at the local level, including races for board of education, council, mayor, county commissioner, surrogate, and sheriff.

The organization works to increase the numbers and diversity of women in elected office in New Jersey by recruiting and funding diverse, viable candidates.

“New Jersey ranks in the bottom half of the country for women in elected office,” said Kerri Kennedy, Founder and Chairwoman of Elect Women NJ. “That equates to women and girls having less than half the representation and voice in critical decisions that are being made about their lives and bodies than their male counterparts. Elect Women NJ is working to change that narrative one elected official at a time.”

“In these challenging times for women, Elect Women NJ is focusing on local races as a solution to ending the systemic, under-representation of women,” said Tricia Maguire, Founder and Executive Director of Elect Women NJ. “Women bring different policies and vantage points to the table that are invaluable in the process of driving policies that are more equitable.”

In 2021, Elect Women NJ endorsed a diverse group of 14 women candidates and financially supported an additional 10 women in races to watch during the election cycle. 64% of the endorsed candidates were women of color.

Additionally, using a special fund designated to further support Black women candidates, they awarded an additional $2,500 to five of their endorsed candidates.

Endorsement applications can be accessed online at: https://forms.gle/zyBNXey77gWoDaHcA and are due by August 10, 2022.

Elect Women NJ Founder and Treasurer Linda Peng-Grooters and other members of the executive committee will hold two informational seminars on the application. One on July 14 at 8:30 am and one on August 2 at 7:00 pm.  A link to register can be found on our website.

Applications will be reviewed by the Board of Directors and endorsements will be announced by September 9, 2022.

Elect Women NJ will host an event soon after to feature the endorsed candidates.
