WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed state Assemblywoman Carol Murphy for election to New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District. EMILYs List Interim President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“Assemblywoman Carol Murphy has spent her career fighting for the future of New Jersey in and out of office, and EMILYs List is proud to endorse her to do the same in the U.S. House. Murphy has led the way in protecting some of our most fundamental rights in the state legislature. Her experience and dedication will make her an extraordinary representative for the 3rd Congressional District, and we look forward to helping this pro-choice champion cross the finish line in November.”
Carol Murphy is the current state assemblywoman for New Jersey’s 7th Assembly District, where she serves as the chamber’s majority whip. Murphy hails from a proud military family and credits her father’s service with instilling in her values of patriotism and community service. Before running for office, she worked in the New Jersey Schools Development Authority to improve and modernize the state’s public school system. She also served as a chief of staff and policy director in the New Jersey state legislature before running for office in 2017 and winning with the full support of EMILYs List. In the state Assembly she has been a prolific and effective leader for the Garden State, leading efforts to protect abortion access, raise the minimum wage, reduce gun violence, defend LGBTQ+ rights, and more. She lives with her husband Michael in the Rancocas section of Mount Laurel, New Jersey.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
