WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Rep. Mikie Sherrill for governor of New Jersey. EMILYs List President Jessica Mackler released the following statement:
“EMILYs List is proud to endorse Rep. Mikie Sherrill for governor of New Jersey. In the United States Navy and in Congress, Rep. Sherrill has shown her unwavering commitment to serving our country and the people of New Jersey. Her record passing bipartisan legislation to bring down health care costs, lower taxes for New Jersey residents, and fight for our reproductive rights is clear. We are thrilled to support Rep. Sherrill and to elect the first Democratic woman governor of New Jersey.”
Rep. Mikie Sherrill is a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, former Navy helicopter commander, former federal prosecutor, and the current U.S. Representative for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. In 2018, Rep. Sherrill unseated the Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and flipped NJ-11. While in Congress, Rep. Sherrill has secured the federal funding needed to move forward the largest infrastructure project in American history, which will create thousands of good paying jobs. She has proven to be a champion for reproductive freedom, working to protect Title X funding, emergency abortion care, and access to reproductive care for servicewomen and military families. In 2023, she was named the most effective member of the New Jersey congressional delegation by the nonpartisan Center for Effective Lawmaking.
EMILYs List has supported Rep. Sherrill in 2018, 2020, and 2022 for her congressional races.
EMILYs List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, works to elect Democratic pro-choice women up and down the ballot and across the country with a goal of fighting for our rights and our communities. Our work is centered around a fundamental vision: Run. Win. Change the World. EMILYs List has raised $850 million in service to that vision and has helped Democratic women win competitive elections by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running one of the largest independent expenditure operations for Democrats, and turning out women voters to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country’s first woman as vice president, 175 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 20 governors, and over 1,500 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILYs List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. Visit www.emilyslist.org for more information.
