What: As Hurricane Dorian looms 1,000 miles to our south and New Jersey has faced uncommon algal blooms, heat waves, severe weather and more this summer, dozens of North Jersey front line community activists, local officials and statewide groups will gather for a press conference before, and testify, at the Murphy Administration’s last public hearing north of I-195 on the DRAFT 2019 Energy Master Plan (EMP).

When:  Tuesday, September 3rd.
Empower NJ Press Conference at 5:15 pm
NJBPU Public Hearing from 6 to 8 pm

Where: Hackensack Administration Building, 1 Bergen County Plaza, Hackensack, NJ
Press Conference at Gazebo outside Main Entrance, 1st floor
Public Hearing in Freeholder’s Public Meeting Room, 5th floor

Background: We are in a climate crisis and scientists tell us we have to cut greenhouse gas (ghg) emissions by 45% by 2030. It will be even worse if New Jersey permits new fossil fuel projects, like the 2 frack gas plants proposed for the Meadowlands. That is why the public is demanding the Administration strengthens the EMP with: 1) drastic reductions in ghg emissions in the 2020’s rather than waiting until the 2030’s and 2040’s; and 2) a moratorium on new fossil fuel projects. We need to ensure the EMP isn’t just wishful thinking but actually gets us to Governor Murphy’s goal of 100% clean energy by 2050 building the economy without destroying the planet.
