End Citizens United Calls Out New Jersey’s Undemocratic County Line in New Digital Video

End Citizens United released a new digital video today highlighting how New Jersey’s “county line” ballot is undemocratic. Watch the new video HERE.

“While our democracy is under attack from MAGA extremists who seek to undermine our elections and silence voters, we cannot allow for the same tactics in our own party,” said End Citizens United President Tiffany Muller. “It’s past time for New Jersey to end the county line which puts the interests of party bosses ahead of voters. Thankfully, Congressman Andy Kim is fighting back and we’re proud to support his grassroots, people-powered campaign.”

Transcript of “County Line”

What if your vote was made for you before you even saw your ballot?

That’s what it feels like in New Jersey, thanks to a system called “the county line.”

New Jersey is the only state where primary ballots are created by county party insiders, who give prime ballot placement to their preferred candidates, and sideline others away from the Democratic slate, manipulating voters.

No incumbent on the county line has lost a primary for 25 years.

It lets party leaders hand pick the candidates they want and enjoy huge government contracts from the politicians they help install.

But in this critical moment for our democracy, as we stand up to Republicans who seek to undermine our election systems and silence voters, we can’t afford to let the same thing go unanswered in our own party.

Luckily, there’s a movement building in New Jersey’s Senate race to protect voters’ voices.

With Andy Kim: a progressive Congressman who won in a Trump district twice and knows tough fights.

He’s got a groundswell of grassroots support and groups like End Citizens United to leaders like John Fetterman standing with him.

Polls are showing that he has a real shot at beating the machine, even without the county line.

He’s our chance to break the stranglehold of corruption in New Jersey, and return power to the people.

It’s time to clean up our house.
