End Citizens United // Let America Vote Endorses Sue Altman for Congress
End Citizens United // Let America Vote (ECU // LAV) today endorsed Sue Altman in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. Altman is refusing to take corporate PAC money in her campaign.
“Sue Altman is a fierce pro-democracy advocate, who has a record of fighting to root out Big Money’s corrupting influence on our government,” said Tiffany Muller, President of ECU // LAV. “Sue is committed to passing crucial reforms to ensure every American has a voice in their elections—not just the wealthy elite. She is refusing to take a penny of corporate PAC money to show voters that she’s only beholden to them—unlike Congressman Kean who’s been a corporate cash cow throughout his career. We are excited to endorse Sue and are looking forward to helping her win.”
“I’ve spent my career working to fight back against the corruption that has rooted itself in our democracy, which is why I am so proud to be endorsed by End Citizens United // Let America Vote,” said Sue Altman. “In New Jersey we have learned over and over again that trouble brews when politically connected businesses meet corrupt politicians—which is why I am refusing to take any corporate PAC contributions. I have always put the taxpayers and residents of New Jersey first, and I will stand up for what’s right no matter who is in power. I look forward to working alongside End Citizens United // Let America Vote to protect our voters and our elections.”
Sue Altman has stood up to Big Money throughout her career, including her work to expose corruption in New Jersey which rattled lawmakers to the point of forcibly removing her from a hearing in 2019. She has also overseen a number of democracy reform efforts in New Jersey, including a lawsuit against the state’s undemocratic county line ballot design and raising $500,000 for “We the People,” an in-state democracy roundtable that advocated for election reforms. In contrast, Congressman Tom Kean has taken over $220,000 in corporate PAC contributions in his congressional campaigns in addition to over $1.2 million from corporations as a state legislator.
ECU // LAV is dedicated to combating the two biggest challenges facing our democracy: the corrosive impact of Big Money and attempts to block access to the ballot box. Since its founding in 2015, the group has had over 1 million donors and raised $200 million, with an average donation of just $14. The group has more than 4 million members nationwide.
