Essex County GOP Reorganizes; Barlas Remains Chair, Mary Devon O’Brien as First Vice-Chair and Joy Freeman as Second Vice-Chair
ESSEX COUNTY, NJ – The Essex County Republican Committee convened to hold its reorganization meeting. Al Barlas of Cedar Grove was reelected for a fourth term as Chairman; Mary Devon O’Brien of Maplewood for a fifth term as First
Vice-Chair; Joy Freeman of the South Ward of Newark was elected to her first four year term as Second Vice Chair.
“Our organization is composed of dedicated, loyal, hardworking women and men who believe in our country, our party, our candidates and electing quality individuals to office,” said Chairman Barlas “Serving as Chairman of this organization has been one of my greatest professional honors and privileges. The confidence placed in me to serve another term as Chair is incredibly humbling and one that I do not take lightly. I’m proud to serve with Vice-Chairs Devon O’Brien and Freeman and the rest of our Executive Committee.”
“I am so pleased to be serving again,” said First Vice-Chair Devon O’Brien “It is a true delight. I have watched the party grow, become more diverse in thought and background.” Devon O’Brien, a party stalwart and longtime resident of Maplewood has been reelected to a fifth four year term as First Vice-Chair. Devon O’Brien is currently the Municipal Chair for the Maplewood Republican Committee.
“I am truly honored,” said Second Vice-Chair Freeman. “As the first person from Newark to hold this position in 15 years I plan on using it to continue to expand our urban outreach here and all over the county. ” Vice-Chair Freeman currently serves as a delegate in the 2024 Republican National Convention and currently serves as
Vice-Chair of the South Ward Republican Committee. Freeman will enter her first four year term as Second Vice-Chair immediately.
The Essex County Republican Committee is the official organization recognized by law representing the Republican Party in Essex County, New Jersey. The committee’s primary purpose is to promote the principles and help elect candidates of the Republican Party within the county to office. The committee is composed of elected members from municipalities within Essex County.
