Eustace on Gov’s Veto of RGGI Full Participation Bill
“Governor Continues to Block NJ’s Reentry into RGGI”
(TRENTON) – Assemblyman Tim Eustace (D-Bergen, Passaic) release the following statement on Thursday’s veto of his bill requiring full participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI):
“It’s been five years since the Governor pulled the state out of RGGI, it’s time we return.
“New Jersey has more shoreline to lose than most other States and it’s unfortunate that Governor Christie sees fit to use the beach for his own pleasure while laying a path of destruction for future generations.
“This veto recklessly undermines the environmentally dangerous and visible effects of pollution and climate change, some of which we have already seen in the powerfully destructive storms like Superstorm Sandy.
“While other RGGI states continue to benefit from participation, Governor Christie is purposefully blocking our reentry and allowing New Jersey to lag behind in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.”
