Fair Share Housing Center lauds passage of legislation that removes affordable housing barriers
Fair Share Housing Center Deputy Director Eric Dobson has released the following statement lauding today’s passage of S2527/A2636, which will increase marketing requirements for new affordable housing units and create a central database of available homes for working families:
“We want to thank Senate President Steve Sweeney and Assemblywoman Mila Jasey, Assemblyman Benji Wimberly, and Assemblywoman Annette Chaparro for sponsoring this important bill and shepherding it through the legislative process. This legislation removes barriers that have prevented many families of color from applying to live in affordable homes by creating a single, searchable statewide database. It will help ensure that new homes currently being built for working families will tackle the persistent racial segregation that plagues our communities.”
The legislation was also co-sponsored by Assemblywomen Shanique Speight, Linda Carter, and Cleopatra Tucker. The legislation today passed the Senate 38-0 and the Assembly 71-2 and now heads to Governor Murphy.
