Newark, NJ – March 7, 2017 – Mayor Ras J. Baraka and Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that the City of Newark teamed up on Friday, March 3, with United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey Paul J. Fishman and Newark FBI Special Agent-in-Charge Timothy Gallagher to provide members of the Mayor’s cabinet and senior city officials with training on ethics and protocol.

The federal officials presented cases that illustrated the necessity of following rigid ethical regulations, covering such matters as full disclosure, conflicts of interest, appearances of impropriety, and giving and receiving gifts.

“In light of the recent case involving the Newark Watershed, Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose and I wanted to ensure that all of those with leadership positions in this Administration understand the importance of proper protocol,” said Mayor Baraka. “They now have a greater understanding of their responsibilities as public servants.”

Transparency and honesty in government has been a major goal of the Baraka administration. His signature initiative in this area has been the creation of the groundbreaking Police Civilian Complaint Review Board, which enables residents to make complaints and air concerns about police behavior, and have them acted upon.
