Ferrigno: Americans need to declare their “Medical Independence”.

FAIR LAWN, NJ: New Jersey 5th Congressional District candidate Trevor Ferrigno is calling for a new style of health care “reform” in America. Ferrigno’s concept is not what you would traditionally hear when it comes to health care.

While Republicans and Democrats continue to argue over health care mandates and Medicare negotiation powers, the independent candidate is focusing on individual health care freedom. “Both parties are claiming to be ‘fighting’ to benefit families and seniors,” says Ferrigno. “What they are really doing is fighting to control what people can and cannot do.” Ferrigno looks at the Democrats touting the new power of Medicare being able to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies when it comes to prescription prices. The 5th District candidate sees this as an infringement on patient’s rights as a whole.

“Individuals or an individual’s insurance company should be able to handle this,” says Ferrigno. “The federal government is going to attempt ‘price fixing’ and it’s actually going to cost everyone more money in the long-term.” When asked about the uninsured or elderly patients, Ferrigno contends the ability for individuals (or their caretakers) to negotiate directly can allow for greater potential savings. Also to the point of seniors and those on Medicare or Medicaid, this is an area to have a private component be introduced as a government bureaucracy wouldn’t be as cost or results productive.

With the United States Supreme Court overturning the Roe v. Wade decision, Ferrigno sees this issue in a not so cut and dry manner as media outlets portray. “I believe life is precious and needs to be protected,” declares Ferrigno. “However, to now put life and death decisions in the hands of government is both reckless and detrimental when it comes to preserving the principles of American liberty.” Ferrigno believes this is just another area where big government is stepping in to assert its power over the people. The independent candidate is very clear in his opposition to abortion being used as a regular contraceptive method, but also in his opposition to government meddling into American’s lives. “Where the Republicans want to take this issue is very dangerous,” says Ferrigno. “Whether it is a woman whose life is in danger or a rape victim, the decision on a medical procedure needs to fall into the hands of the patient, their family, and their doctor…not a government bureaucracy.”

When it comes to traditional health care policy, Ferrigno believes freedom plays an important part of the equation. “Democrats want health care for all without worrying about the cost instead of focusing on access to affordable care,” says Ferrigno. “Republicans talked about ‘death panels’ and government overreach with the Affordable Care Act over a decade ago,” Ferrigno recalls. “I don’t see how government deciding what a woman medically does with her own body is any different.” Ferrigno again discusses the need to protect personal freedom.
