Ferrigno: “Congress needs to break the tax and spend mentality.”

FAIR LAWN, NJ: Like many other Americans, Trevor Ferrigno is concerned about the overall future of the American economy. These concerns keep rising as continued runaway spending in Washington is fanning the flames to the fire of an already historic $30 trillion national debt and an already projected $1-plus trillion budget deficit.

“We have never seen the debt at the level it is now,” comments Ferrigno. “Now that we are in a recession, I’m concerned with the fact we can’t grow our way out of debt if our economy is shrinking.” Ferrigno makes reference to the Debt-to-GDP ratio that measures the national debt in relation to the nation’s economic growth. The concern about the Debt-to-GDP ratio goes back to history for the 5th Congressional District candidate. The independent candidate sees the ratio at 130% today in comparison to 1960’s Cold War era ratio of 52.6%. “I know a lot has changed over the past sixty-plus years,” says Ferrigno. “There are some principles that haven’t changed in that same period of time…you don’t spend more than you can afford…and if you borrow money, you have to pay it back.”

Ferrigno is concerned for the financial future of the country. “Mortgaging away America’s future is simply irresponsible,” declares Ferrigno. “We are not fulfilling our generational promise of providing the children of this country a stronger America than the one we were able to grow in.”

The independent candidate, running on the slogan “Together We Stand”, is also calling for a balanced budget amendment to help get the situation under control. Ferrigno points out current estimates have the budget deficit projected at over a trillion dollars this year and that the last time we saw a balanced budget was in 2001. “A Republican Congress was able to get a lot done with a Democratic Clinton White House in the mid-1990s because they all realized the economic realities and compromised to achieve some great things including a balanced budget and even a budget surplus,” reflects Ferrigno. “The American people could use that kind of leadership again.”

Ferrigno believes such compromise is possible as many Americans have expressed their frustration and disappointment with the current political climate, including a Congressional approval rating of 18%. However, Ferrigno knows the path to such compromise can only happen if the voters look beyond the “R” and the “D”.
