STATEMENT FROM JOSEPH B. VAS

Perth Amboy, N.J. (September 1, 2020) – At the conclusion of the August 31, 2020 filing deadline for Mayor, the cast of candidates looks awfully familiar. On one end, you have Wilda Diaz and three of her Diaz Team councilmembers turn mayoral hopefuls. All of them now promise “change” or a newfound vision after years of supporting many, if not all, of Diaz’s failed policies. Every one of them has presided over increased taxes for residential homeowners, while providing large tax abatements to outside investors. Together they have been unable to secure an improved quality of life, rather seeing violent crimes rise dramatically without being solved. They collectively buried their heads in the sand refusing to address inferior contaminated water and the highest Covid-19 rate in Middlesex County. As they say “politics” makes for strange bedfellows.

While there may be six (6) candidates running for mayor in the Perth Amboy’s 2020 municipal election, the reality is there are only two choices – more of the same with Diaz and the Diaz team of councilmembers that supported and enabled her to increase taxes and fuel turmoil and chaos in city government or a choice of change to Joseph B. Vas. It’s that simple. Vas and his Together, Perth Can Do Better Slate have not been a part of the failures of the past 12 years, but they have the qualifications to fix the problems that the Diaz Team created.
