FIRST ELEMENT OF COUNCILMAN JAMES SOLOMON’S BUDGET REFORM AGENDA PASSES IN CITY COUNCIL

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Last night, the Jersey City Municipal Council approved Councilmember James Solomon’s regulations enforcing budgetary timelines and to require all departments to regularly report overtime spending. The legislation is the first of a multi-pronged agenda by the Councilmember to improve the city’s budget and control process, reduce wasteful spending, and ensure developers in Jersey City pay what they owe.

“I made a commitment to work with my colleagues to make sure last year’s budget debacle is never repeated. Increasing Council oversight and enforcing timeline are the first critical steps in this process. I thank my colleagues for supporting this effort and commit to continuing to push forward with the plan I layed out at the beginning of this month”

The Councilman’s Ordinance (Ord. 23-002) was passed by an 8-0 vote with Councilman Rivera absent.
