First Olympic Sport Tournament is held in Dunellen, New Jersey this weekend 7/18, 2020

With pride and enthusiasm The Lily Yip Table Tennis Center staged New Jersey’s first post pandemic athletic tournament. The event was conceived and organized by US Olympian Lily Yip’s daughter Judy Hugh and son in-law Cory Eider, both former US National Champions. They ensured the competition was consistent with the requirements of social distancing and all other necessary coronavirus precautions were taken. The highlight of the event was a visit by Dunellen’s distinguished Mayor Jason Cilento and Assemblywoman Linda S. Carter, from New Jersey’s Legislative District 22 who both spoke briefly to celebrate the occasion.

The tournament featured remarkable players of all levels from the metropolitan area including current US team members and Olympian. There are 30 players participated the USATT raking under 1900, their ages ranging from 9 years old to 84 years old. Amir Khan defeated Eugene Cristoaica 3:1 in the final become champion, Adam Slomki and Sean Reddy took third place. Thirty players competed in the USATT raking over 1900 as well. The current US National Team member Sharon Alguetti beat his elder brother Adar Alguetti, a former US National champion and sophomore at NYU 3:0. Alex Averin and Jayden Zhou took third place. The total price award was over $3000 sponsored by our longtime donors Pater Liu, Caesar Primus and attorney Hu, Zhi Yu.

Former US Olympic team coach Lily Yip has informed the Recreation Director of Dunellen Alex Miller that her club is offering a free play for Dunellen senior citizens from 10:00am to 12:00 noon every Tuesday morning. There will be safe social distancing and the opportunity to stay in shape and keep in contact with friends and peers.
