Following Internet Outages in Edison, Council Vice President, Mayoral Candidate Sam Joshi Calls for Municipal Broadband and End to Optimum Monopoly
Sam Joshi is the only candidate with a real plan to end Optimum’s monopoly
EDISON, NJ — Following constant internet outages and consistently lackluster broadband performance, Edison Council Vice President and Mayoral Candidate Sam Joshi is calling for municipal broadband and an end to Optimum’s monopoly.
“Once again, Edison residents today are suffering through a significant internet outage in what has become a regular occurence in our community,” said Council Vice President and Mayoral candidate Sam Joshi. “I am calling for municipal broadband and for an end to Optimum’s monopoly. We need a Mayor and Council that will fight to put an end to unreliable, expensive internet service and that is why my slate and I are running. We are the only ticket with a real plan for the future of Edison that includes municipal broadband that will deliver faster, cheaper internet service to Edison families.”
In both Senator Cory Booker and Governor Phil Murphy’s endorsements of Sam Joshi for Mayor, they mentioned his innovative plan to solve Edison’s broadband issues as one of the reasons they were supporting him, with Senator Booker stating, “Sam’s vision for Edison’s future, including creating a municipal broadband network for faster, more affordable internet, revitalizing local parks and public spaces, and pursuing economic development initiatives that will create new tax revenue and jobs, are the type of bold ideas needed to tap into Edison’s potential.”
In Governor Murphy’s endorsement, he stated, “I’m proud to endorse Sam Joshi for Mayor of Edison. Sam has the experience, passion, and vision needed to unite Edison and continue its role as one of New Jersey’s most thriving and diverse communities. As mayor, Sam will create a new township master plan and prioritize smart investments, such as municipal broadband.”
