Food and Water Watch: Murphy’s Mixed Signals on Pipelines; Governor’s Clean Energy Vision Cannot Include Fracked Gas Pipelines

Murphy’s Mixed Signals on Pipelines

Governor’s Clean Energy Vision Cannot Include Fracked Gas Pipelines

In a new story posted at Politico New Jersey, Board of Public Utilities president Joseph Fiordaliso signaled his support for expanding fracked gas pipelines in the state.

In response, Food & Water Watch Senior Organizer and Policy Advocate Lena Smith issued the following statement:

“Governor Murphy cannot have it both ways: If his administration approves new fracked gas pipelines, that means decades of additional fossil fuel pollution that will undermine his commitment to clean energy. Fiordaliso’s comments are not a surprise, given his record at the BPU. But if Murphy really seeks a shift away from the Christie administration’s awful legacy, he must forcefully and unequivocally reject these comments. As the administration convenes the first meetings to devise the state’s new Energy Master Plan, countless environmental and community advocates are demanding a moratorium on fossil fuel projects. There is no need for new fracked gas infrastructure, except for serving the greed of the fossil fuel industry.”
