Free Family-friendly Arts & Culture Entertainment Excites Jersey City all Summer long

Summer in the City 2019 Concert Series Kicks Off with Music, Dance and Movies in Parks Citywide

JERSEY CITY – As Jersey City continues to emerge as a leader in the arts – both visual and performing – Mayor Steven M. Fulop is pleased to announce the return of this year’s 2019 Summer in the City Concert Series, a successful citywide campaign bringing live music, films, dance, and performances to park locations across the City for all residents to enjoy free of cost.

“Jersey City is a dynamic, ever-growing arts scene, and summer is a time where we are able to showcase all we have to offer – the arts, the culture, the many talented people who make up this great City,” said Mayor Fulop.  “These Summer in the City programs provide free entertainment in every Ward nearly every day of the week.”

Summer Dance underscores the talented art organizations that are the spirit of the city.  Every Wednesday in July, J. Owen Grundy Pier is the home of Summer Dance, with weekly performances by a handful of select, grassroots Jersey City dance companies.

In close partnership with Friends of Liberty State Park, SummerFest is a long-standing, homegrown concert series that takes place every Tuesday (6:30 – 8:30 p.m.) and Sunday (6:00 – 8:00 p.m.) in Liberty State Park during the months of July and August. Part of the larger Summer in the City series, the Office of Cultural Affairs hand-selects musical groups and artists ranging in flavor, from Motown, Jazz, Blues, Vintage and Classic Rock, Country, Cuban Dance, Funk and R&B.

Following suit, The Berry Lane Park Concert Series, in partnership with Friends of Berry Lane Park, aims to enrich this community park with a variety of music acts all summer long. Music sourced for this series promises to get spectators up and off their feet: from Neo Soul to Haitian, to Roots Blues and Reggae – the Berry Lane Park Concert Series brings a fresh perspective to traditional cultural song and dance. For all outdoor music concerts and film screenings, residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets for comfortable viewing… and don’t forget your dancing shoes!

“We are a diverse City, with various interests in music and dance,” said Christine Goodman, Director of Cultural Affairs.  “To be able to highlight so many talented artists by providing free entertainment to residents and visitors is, in my opinion, a win-win for all.”
