FREEHOLDER JOHN P. CURLEY CALLS FOR INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION INTO REPORT THAT BROOKDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE IS IN DANGER OF LOSING ITS ACADEMIC ACCREDITATION

Letter to College Cites Ethics, Integrity & Educational Effectiveness Concerns

Monmouth County Freeholder John P. Curley today called for a thorough and independent investigation into Brookdale Community College following reports that the college is in danger of losing its academic accreditation, endangering the federal financial aid of thousands of students.

The Middle States Commission on Higher Education, an independent agency, notified the college in a letter that it hasn’t properly addressed issues of ethics and integrity, as well as educational effectiveness. If the Commission revokes its accreditation, the college will no longer be eligible to accept the federal financial aid that thousands of students receive, and its academic reputation will be sorely damaged.

“It’s outrageous that Brookdale has fallen this far. Clearly, we can no longer rely upon an in-house review by the Board and that is why I am calling for a thorough and independent investigation to find out once and for all the problems that are plaguing our community college,” says Freeholder Curley.

As the former Freeholder Liaison to the college, Curley uncovered the misuse of funds that led to the former president’s resignation and conviction. After exposing the corruption, Curley was removed as liaison by his fellow Freeholder Board members.

“As a proud graduate of Brookdale Community College, I want to ensure that the students of Monmouth County receive the same great education that I did, and that the taxpayers of Monmouth County know that their money is being spent properly,” says Curley.
