Freeholder Kern Questions Funding Formula for 3 Trillion Dollar COVID-19 Stimulus Package
Warren County Freeholder James Kern III questions why several New Jersey counties were precluded from first rounds of funding but now qualify.
“I was shocked today to see that Warren County is now eligible for federal funding under the proposed 3 Trillion Dollar COVID-19 Stimulus Package. It was not 2 weeks ago, that our congressional representatives stated we were ineligible for funding because of ‘long standing, unchangeable and automatic federal formulas’ To our delegation I ask simply, what has changed? ”
Warren County along with Hunterdon, Sussex and Salem counties did not receive any federal funding under the Corona Virus Stimulus Package or the CARES Act.
“While I am appreciative of our inclusion in this legislation, it certainly makes me question where this leadership was early on. This bill has little bipartisan support and is likely dead on arrival. All this addition of rural New Jersey will accomplish at the end of the day is its insertion in a campaign year political ad”.
