GIFFORDS PAC Endorses Sue Altman in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District

Lambertville, NJ — Today, GIFFORDS PAC announced its endorsement of Sue Altman in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, citing her strong support of gun safety reform to stop the surge of senseless gun violence across our nation.

Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords released the following statement with GIFFORDS PAC endorsement of Sue:

“In 2018, a wave of strong women helped flip control of the US House and establish a historic gun safety majority. That majority passed numerous pieces of lifesaving legislation for the first time and secured critical funding for gun violence research. In 2024, we’re going to do it again: after two years of Republican infighting and inaction on gun safety, taking back the House is more critical than ever this fall, and we know Sue Altman is exactly the candidate we need to help get the job done. GIFFORDS PAC is proud to endorse Sue today in her fight to turn NJ-07 from red to blue. With her helping to lead the way, I know that progress is possible and we can again overcome the gun lobby’s dangerous agenda and achieve real results for the American people.”

“As a former educator and someone who knows the toll gun violence has had on our communities, I’m honored to accept GIFFORDS PAC endorsement,” Altman said. “NJ-07 deserves someone who will fight for common sense gun safety reform and work to stop the surge of senseless gun violence across our country – not someone who cozies up to the gun lobby and does nothing to stop the gun violence epidemic.”

While incumbent Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. has consistently voted to support the gun lobby’s agenda, Sue will work to achieve common sense gun safety reform that includes a national assault weapons ban, closing the Charleston loophole for universal background checks, and supporting the repeal of the PLCAA to hold the gun lobby accountable for the deaths committed by their products.

Meet Sue Altman:

Sue Altman is a proud daughter of New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. She grew up on Center Street in Clinton, attended Clinton Public School and Voorhees High School, and calls Hunterdon County her home today, living in Lambertville.

After leading her Voorhees High School basketball team to local championships, Sue played college basketball at Columbia University and professional basketball abroad, earned two graduate degrees from Oxford University in the UK – one in International Policy and the other in Business, then went on to become a teacher and successful basketball coach, leading two teams to state championships.

During her time as a teacher, Sue became deeply involved in the fight for New Jersey’s schools and students. She stood up to then-Governor Chris Christie in order to protect teachers and fight against cuts to public schools.

For the last several years, Sue has served as Executive Director of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance, a non-profit organization focused primarily on combating political corruption in Trenton. Sue fought fearlessly against corrupt actors in both parties and the waste of taxpayer dollars.

Over her career, Sue has fought tirelessly for the people of New Jersey. She won’t stop when she gets to Washington.
