Good Grief Appoints Theresa Shubeck Chief Executive Officer

Good Grief Appoints Theresa Shubeck its New CEO

Seasoned Nonprofit Executive Joins Organization on Dec. 1

Morristown and Princeton, NJ – Good Grief announced today that Theresa Shubeck will join the bereavement charity as its next Chief Executive Offer effective December 1, 2021.

The announcement follows a comprehensive search process by the Good Grief board to select a successor to CEO Joe Primo. Earlier this year, Primo announced his decision to leave Good Grief after 14 years to relocate to North Carolina where his husband has started a new job.

Shubeck joins Good Grief with a wealth of experience helping nonprofit organizations advance their missions, develop, and execute strategies, raise critical funds, and train leaders.

Shubeck has spent 25 years with philanthropic consulting firm Ruotolo Associates most recently as Executive Vice President responsible for firm-wide client services. In this role, she has advised and worked closely with a diverse group of social service, education, healthcare, faith-based and arts organizations. Earlier, Shubeck served in development and alumni relations roles with Drew University for more than a decade and subsequently led development for a private school in New York City.

“We’re delighted to welcome Theresa to Good Grief at a critical time for our organization as we continue our growth and expansion offering new programs and services to meet the needs of grieving children, families and communities,” said Mark Durham, Good Grief Board Chairman. “Theresa brings to us valuable experience in all aspects of nonprofit management, and we look forward to her leadership and the perspective she brings to her new role.

“At the same time, we extend our thanks and deep appreciation to Joe for his innumerable contributions to Good Grief, his passion for our mission, and his drive and determination to work towards a future where no child ever has to grieve alone.”

“Good Grief is an exemplary organization – mission-focused, accomplished and ambitious,” said Shubeck. “I am honored to bring my insights and experience to this organization, and I look forward to building on the strong foundation Good Grief has established thanks to the commitment and dedication of its staff, volunteers and supporters.”
