Google and Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker to Announce Monmouth Junction Student as Winner of 2018 New Jersey ‘Doodle 4 Google’ Competition

 

Student to be Honored by Google Officials, Have Artwork Showcased While Advancing to National Competition

 

Monmouth Junction, NJ – On Thursday, May 3, ambassadors from Google will join Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker (D) to visit Monmouth Junction to announce a South Brunswick High School student as the winner of this year’s New Jersey Doodle 4 Google competition. The student, who will not know they have won until the morning of, will have their winning artwork revealed at a school assembly. The piece was submitted based on the prompt “What inspires me.” As state winner, they will receive various Google hardware and be eligible to win the national award.

 

The Doodle 4 Google competition gives K-12 students across the country the opportunity to have their artwork featured on Google’s homepage. This year’s submissions were accepted from all 50 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico and Guam. Local winners were selected by a group of guest judges – including Olympian Ibtihaj Muhammad, actor Neil Patrick Harris, and retired baseball player Carlos Beltran – and will now be placed online for public voting to select five national finalists. Voting will begin on May 7th and last until May 18th, with the ultimate winner selected by Google on June 8th. The winner will have their work appear on Google’s homepage, receive a $30,000 college scholarship, win a $50,000 technology grant for their school or a nonprofit of choice, earn a trip to Google’s headquarters, and more.
