GORMAN URGES GOVERNOR TO REOPEN CASINOS, SMALL BUSINESSES IN GALLOWAY

(Galloway Twp.) Today, Galloway Township Mayor Jim Gorman urged Governor Murphy to reopen Atlantic City’s casinos and small businesses in Galloway Township so long as they follow proper social distancing measures.

“Unemployment in Galloway Township is easily 15 percent, if not more,” said Mayor Gorman. “While big box stores like Walmart and Target can open, small shops in Smithville and in Risley Square are still closed, and curbside pickup isn’t enough to help these businesses stay afloat.”

Gorman is joining calls to reopen the casinos as soon as possible and is urging the Governor to allow small businesses in Galloway to open so long as they limit occupancy and require face coverings.

Additionally, Gorman expressed support for Governor Murphy’s executive order that would allow municipalities to close roads to allow for outdoor dining and shopping. Gorman noted that he would work with the Township Manager on this endeavor.

“Galloway has some of the best restaurants in Atlantic County. Not allowing them to capitalize on the summer months and offer outdoor dining is devastating,” said Gorman.
