Gottheimer Announces 2018 Congressional App Challenge

Nationwide Competition Opportunity for Young North Jersey Coders to Showcase Work

GLEN ROCK, N.J. — Today, Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) announced his office is accepting submissions for the annual Congressional App Challenge (CAC). The CAC is a nonpartisan competition for students in middle school and high school that promotes computer science education and teaching students to code in order to prepare for STEM careers. Congressman Gottheimer encourages the submissions to showcase North Jersey’s innovation and excellence.

“Competitions like the App Challenge are a great way to showcase the innovative young coders from across the Fifth District – and to remind students, teachers, businesses, and parents about the importance of science education,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “As someone who worked in tech in the private sector, I’ve seen firsthand how a strong background in STEM and coding can help a student get ahead in the modern workforce for the good of our businesses and I look forward to seeing the ingenuity of North Jersey’s next generation.”

Submissions from the Fifth District will be reviewed by an independent panel of judges and recognized by Congressman Gottheimer, and the winner has the additional chance to win prizes and have their work displayed in the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.

Students are required to register for the competition before September 10^th, 2018, and submit their final app by October 15^th, 2018.
