Gottheimer Celebrates National Financial Literacy Month with Teaneck High School Students Competing in the Capitol Hill Challenge

TEANECK, N.J. — Friday, Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) celebrated National Financial Literacy Month by speaking with Teaneck High School students competing in the SIFMA Foundation’s Capitol Hill Challenge. The Challenge is a national fourteen-week financial education competition that matches members of Congress with public schools in their district to teach middle and high school students about saving, investing, and government through investing a hypothetical $100,000 in listed stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.

“When two-thirds of Americans would have difficulty coming up with the money to cover a $1,000 emergency, and only 24 percent of millennials demonstrate basic financial literacy, it’s clear that something’s got to change,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer. “The ability to make sound financial decisions is critical not just to our own success, but also to the success of our entire community. Thank you to the students, teachers, and administrators at Teaneck High School for having me here today and working hard to invest in their education. For my part, I’m going to continue to fight to strengthen our economy, lower taxes, provide our students the skills they need to succeed, cut red tape, invest in infrastructure, and put our community on the path to success.”
