Gottheimer Cuts Red Tape at the V.A. to Get Tax Exemption for Disabled Andover Veteran

Following Bureaucratic Holdup, Veteran Receives Tax Exemption He Deserves

ANDOVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Today, Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) announced that his office has helped Andover veteran and former 3rd Class Petty Officer Edward Frick receive the real estate tax exempt status for which he qualified. When paperwork at the Department of Veterans Affairs (V.A.) held up Frick’s application for an exemption from the Township of Andover, Gotthiemer cut through the red tape and demanded results for the North Jersey veteran.

In New Jersey, Frick qualifies for the exemption due to his 100% disabled status following his service as a combat medic in Vietnam.

“These things—helping a veteran, a cop, a firefighter—are not partisan issues. These are American issues. These are Jersey issues,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “I am proud of the work my office has done for veterans, active service members, first responders, and families of our fallen heroes. North Jersey veterans like 3rd Class Petty Officer Frick deserve the best care and any assistance they need after valiantly serving their country.”

“Often, getting the benefits I know I deserve can be complicated and paperwork can be overwhelming. I can never get anyone to pick up the phone and get me straighttalk answers. There’s too much red tape and too many unknowns. Gottheimer took the ball, ran with the ball and scored the touchdown. He took care of the entire problem. He never questioned if I was a Democrat, a Republican, or neither. He just did the job. Veterans who need help should go to Congressman Gottheimer,” said 3rd Class Petty Officer Edward Frick.

Gottheimer has championed North Jersey veterans in Congress, consistently voting to increase funding for veterans programs. In August, the President signed Gottheimer’s amendment into law to boost hiring of young veterans and improve care at the VA. Gottheimer also passed an amendment to extend the authorization for the Suicide Prevention and Resilience Program for National Guard members, their families, and veterans for 2018.
