PARAMUS – Joined by Fifth District business leaders, Congressman Josh Gottheimer received the endorsement of the United States Chamber of Commerce today for his record working across the aisle to bring jobs and economic prosperity to the Fifth District.

In April, Gottheimer was awarded the Spirit of Enterprise Award by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for his pro jobs, pro-growth record and was one of just thirteen Democrats in the House to receive the honor.

In his first term, Gottheimer has earned a reputation for working with both parties to build bipartisan support for common-sense solutions. He serves as co-chair of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, a group of 24 Democrats and 24 Republicans who work together to find common ground on tough issues facing the country, and has been ranked as the most bipartisan freshman Democratic member of Congress by both the Lugar Center and Quorom.

“Josh is a pragmatic, effective, bipartisan, thoughtful, independent leader,” said Rob Engstrom, senior vice president and national political director, U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “He has the ability to win, he also has the courage to govern and get big things done. He’s also well respected in both parties. As we’ve lost the middle in Congress, we have leaders like Josh Gottheimer who are willing to go and embrace the middle. That’s really the tradition in our country when you think about the big things that have gotten done, people who have the courage to reach across the aisle…That’s why, on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States, I’m proud to be back in New Jersey and endorse my friend, Josh Gottheimer.”

“Thank you, Rob, the U.S. Chamber and your members for your endorsement. Earlier this year, I was so proud to stand with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to accept the Spirit of Enterprise Award and it’s an honor to stand with you again today, having earned the support of one of our nation’s most respected and important voices for economic growth, opportunity and free enterprise,” said Gottheimer. “I’m working hard every day to reward innovation, promote entrepreneurship and support the businesses that choose to invest here in North Jersey. Whether it’s fighting for the businesses and workers that have been pillars of our communities for decades or empowering entrepreneurs who whole the next big ideas to drive our economic future, I’m proud of my record working across the aisle for stronger pro-growth, pro-jobs policies. As long as I’m in Congress, I won’t stop advocating for bipartisan, common-sense solutions to lowering taxes, cutting red tape, investing  to fix crumbling infrastructure, standing up for workers and clawing more of the tax dollars we sent to Washington back to New Jersey.”

Last month, Gottheimer scored a victory for New Jersey jobs and businesses, successfully blocking sweeping tariffs on Fifth District manufacturers. In Congress, he has fought to restore the State and Local Tax Deduction (SALT) to give New Jersey families a much-needed tax cut, worked to secure bipartisan funding for the Gateway Program and other essential investments to fix our crumbling infrastructure, and as a member of the House Financial Services Committee co-led the bipartisan Comprehensive Regulatory Review Act to strengthen and improve regulatory review process to ensure businesses can thrive and consumers are protected. Gottheimer also broke with his party as one of seven Democrats to vote for the Balanced Budget Amendment.

“When we talk about lowering taxes, creating jobs, supporting workers and helping Main Street thrive, what it really comes down to is building strong communities and strong families,” said Gottheimer. “To me, there’s nothing that says Jersey Values better than that.”

In addition to Rob Engstrom, senior vice president and national political director, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Gottheimer was joined today by Fred Rohdieck, president, Paramus Regional Chamber of Commerce, and other Fifth District business leaders at the newly-opened iFly indoor skydiving facility in Paramus.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business organization representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions.
