With Hospitalizations Up, Answers COVID-19 Questions, Provides Medical Update

GLEN ROCK, NJ – On Thursday, October 29, 2020, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) hosted his 55th “Cup of Joe with Josh” Town Hall virtually on Facebook Live, with special guest Dr. Adam Jarrett, the Chief Medical Officer of Holy Name Medical Center, to answer questions about COVID-19, economic relief, and steps to protect the community during a second wave of the virus.

“I’d like to thank everyone who tuned into my virtual Cup of Joe with Josh Town Hall, where I was able to connect with residents all across North Jersey to answer their questions,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “I also want to thank Dr. Jarrett for speaking about his work at Holy Name and all the efforts of our brave frontline health care workers to help our community stay safe and healthy as we enter flu season. This briefing is especially important given the recent spike in hospitalizations and cases in New Jersey. I will continue to update North Jersey on what I’m doing to combat this crisis, to help ensure our hospitals have the resources they need, to fight for a new bipartisan relief package, to get our businesses much needed support, and help all our communities impacted by this public health and economic crisis.”

Gottheimer is leading several initiatives to combat the impacts of COVID-19 on North Jersey residents including: 

• Last month, the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, co-chaired by Gottheimer, unveiled its “March to Common Ground” COVID relief framework to help break the gridlock on the latest COVID-19 relief package and encourage negotiators to get back to the table to get a deal done to help American families, businesses, and local communities.

• Gottheimer is leading bipartisan, bicameral legislation —  the Nursing Home Pandemic Protection Act of 2020 — to require that nursing homes have a crisis plan in place to manage an outbreak, that facilities keep a stockpile of PPE on hand, that nursing homes report communicable diseases, infections, and potential outbreaks, and work to ensure that residents and their families be kept informed of infections inside the facilities. Last week, Senator Cory Booker (NJ) announced companion legislation in the U.S. Senate.

• Earlier this month, Gottheimer outlined steps to help protect North Jersey seniors and veterans in long-term care facilities from COVID-19, and to demand to know if facilities are properly prepared as North Jersey enters flu season.
