Talks Clawing Back Grants From Moocher States and Best Practices for Grant Applications
GLEN ROCK, NJ – On Wednesday, January 22, 2020, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) hosted a call with Fifth District Mayors on upcoming grant opportunities that their towns qualify for such as the COPS Hiring Grant Program, STOP School Violence Grant Program, Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG), the Law Enforcement Support Office 1033 Program (1033), the GSA Federal Surplus Property Program, and the Computers for Learning Program.
“Since I’ve been in Congress, representing New Jersey’s Fifth Congressional District, I’ve been incredibly focused on fighting back against the Moocher States, like West Virginia and Mississippi, which receive $4.23 and $4.38, respectively, back for every singular tax dollar they send to Washington,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “With my Return on Investment Initiative, we can help our local leaders take advantage of grant opportunities to help claw more of our federal tax dollars back to our communities, lower taxes, and better serve our constituents.”
Since 2016, the Fifth District has clawed back 57% more federal tax dollars from Washington. We are now realizing a far better ROI on the tax dollars North Jersey residents sends to Washington every year. That’s a 35% increase from 2017.”
