Gottheimer, North Jersey Officials Work Together to Ensure Safety On Local CSX Railways

Work of Gottheimer, local officials is prompting quick CSX repairs throughout the Fifth District

GLEN ROCK, NJ – On Tuesday, January 14, 2020, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) sent a letter to CSX Corporation President and CEO James Foote to commend the track repairs completed at the New Milford Avenue crossing in Dumont and to address serious safety concerns and deteriorating conditions at the Madison Avenue and Columbia Avenue crossings in Dumont.

Through the work of Gottheimer and local officials in North Jersey, CSX has recently repaired several railway lines in Norwood and Dumont.

“We simply cannot risk a major accident along CSX railroads in Dumont, or anywhere in northern New Jersey,” wrote Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “We must do everything possible to permanently secure these railroad crossings.”

Recent examination of the crossings found several defects including rotted, damaged, and altogether missing railroad ties that are forcing drivers to take circuitous routes across the tracks. Gottheimer worked with Dumont Mayor Andrew Labruno to make sure the repairs were done quickly and effectively.
