Gottheimer Stands Up for Veterans, Fights Terrorism By Passing Amendments in NDAA

RELEASE: Gottheimer Stands Up for Veterans, Fights Terrorism By Passing Amendments in NDAA

Today, Congressman Josh Gottheimer successfully passed several bipartisan amendments in the National Defense Authorization Act to stand up for our nation’s veterans and fight terrorism.

His first passed amendment aims to curb veterans suicide by extending a critical program that provides members of the National Guard and Reserves, as well as their families, with training in suicide prevention, resilience, and community healing resources. Video of Gottheimer speaking on the floor on this amendment is available HERE. He also cosponsored a bipartisan amendment to boost veterans’ employment by expanding the United States Military Apprenticeship Program (USMAP).

To fight terrorism and keep the United States safe from enemies at home and abroad, Gottheimer passed an amendment to continue to require the Secretary of Defense to report to Congress on support to law enforcement agencies conducting counter-terrorism activities and cosponsored one to extend the reporting requirements on Iran’s ballistic missile program.

“I’m proud to have passed these amendments that will help keep our families and communities safe from terrorists and help our heroes by putting a stop to veterans suicide and making it easier for veterans to find jobs,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer. “There is no responsibility I take more seriously than protecting the United States and standing up for those who have risked their lives to do so. I thank my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for their support for these important amendments.”

Gottheimer’s bipartisan measure to strengthen Israeli missile defense was also included in the NDAA bill that passed the House today. More details on that measure are available HERE.
