Gottheimer Thanks TSA Agents For Their Work During Government Shutdown

NEWARK, NJ – On Sunday, January 27, 2019 U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) brought coffee and donuts to TSA workers at Newark Airport to thank them for their work in securing our skies and our airports while unpaid during the partial government shutdown.

“Anyone who does an honest day’s work deserves a paycheck,” said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5). “Our TSA workers are on the frontlines of keeping our skies and our airports safe and secure, and yet they had to spend thirty-five days worried about how to take care of their families.  I thank them for their commitment to our safety during the shutdown. I will continue to do everything I can to prevent a shutdown from happening again. We cannot have our air safety, security, and our economy at risk.”

More than 5,000 federal workers in New Jersey missed paychecks as a result of the government shutdown, including TSA agents and air traffic controllers. Gottheimer voted 11 times to reopen the government before operations resumed on Friday.
